Accommodation:

You will be staying in ”Pesä”, a former military truck, originally designed for rugged off-road terrain.

Now, the truck has been refurbished into a comfortable 6-bed moving cabin for guests, with a wood stove for heating. It also offers a WiFi and an eco-toilet.

The truck is relatively basic but comfortable and has warm ambiance.

The truck lets us get to regions which have no accommodation or where a normal car wouldn’t be able to take us, making it the ideal vehicle to hunt out the best powder in Norway.

Pesä, the base-camp-on-wheels, facts:

A former military truck turned into an off-road capable mobile base camp

Harsh from outside, cosy from inside

Accommodates 6 people, plenty of gear and food, and heaps of good spirit

Has a fireplace, pro-level kitchen, decent sound system, eco toilet and a WiFi

Day 1: Arrival

Getting there and away

Tromsø (TOS) or Bardufoss Airports (BDU) (we recommend Bardufoss Airport), are served several daily international flights and connections from Oslo (OSL). Other close airport options are Narvik, Kiruna in Sweden and Kittilä or Rovaniemi in Finland. You can get any flights that suit you, but please make sure to contact Tamok guides before confirming the flights and let him ok your choice.

If your chosen transfer option arrives straight to Tamok, Norway, you’ll meet your guide at Huset, the local hub for the freeskiers. Should you feel like saying hej, you can easily meet the nice folks of the freeriding community and hear the latest snow news and beyond.

Check into your accommodation and base camp for the week, the military truck “Pesä”. Settle into and relax, as your guide takes you through the plan and gear for the week, including the avalanche safety equipment. A hefty evening meal will be prepared and served by your chef. Before falling asleep, do the final preparations for the the next day in the mountains as suggested by your guide.

Rest up that night because tomorrow will be a big day!

Note: The actual itinerary and the duration of the activities are subject to change due to group abilities and preferences, weather and snow conditions and forecasts, road conditions etc. The tour is meant to be an adventure.

Day 2: Skiing in Tamok

After breakfast this morning, you’ll head out into the valley on the edge of civilisation.

The snow conditions will determine the direction you take today with plenty of peaks to ascend nearby and the option of taking the Pesä out on the road in search for something even better. If visibility is a problem, there are plenty of powder stashes to hit among trees, and ski laps to take; your guide will help you make the best of your day, that’s for sure.

After a long day on your skis, you’ll head back to the Pesä for a 3-course dinner prepared for you by the chef. Relax while you check out the weather forecast and avalanche bulletins with your guide and plan for tomorrow.

5-8 hours of skiing

Day 3: Exploring Tamok

Enjoy breakfast on the Pesä before heading out for the day. Your guide will help set the agenda; perhaps you’ll ascend Sjufjellet or Blåbærfjellet, or some of the other nearby thousand metre peaks. What you are guaranteed, is plenty of untouched powder and some great new experiences.

This trip gives you a real opportunity to develop your skills, on and off your skis. You’ll get to understand the basics of route planning and how to choose the best lines for skiing.

After a long day in the mountains, you’ll return to the Pesä for dinner. Kick back and share stories of the day with the group while your three-course dinner is prepared. You may choose to stay put for the night and allow your muscles some R and R, or you might head out with your camera, feeling lucky on seeing the Aurora Borealis tonight.

5-8 hours of skiing

Day 4: Ski from summit to sea

Where will today take you? You’ll gain a rough idea of the day’s plans from your review of the weather forecast with your guide the night before. The Pesä provides the perfect means to explore; after breakfast you can be straight on the road, leaving Tamok Valley behind for a chance to discover the rest of the region.

Today you might visit the legendary Lyngen Alps. In this area you can literally ski from the top of a mountain down to the sea. You’ll find some of the steepest lines to ski as well as mellow lines; the area has something for everyone.

After dinner, look ahead to tomorrow’s forecast. This trip offers a lot of opportunity to learn, including how to understand mountain weather and stay safe.

5-8 hours of skiing

Day 5: Explore further afield

There’s still so much to discover in this area, including Senja, Kvaløya, and other outer islands. These islands offer an awe-inspiring mix of sea, mountains and beaches; skiing this stunning landscape gives you a new photo opportunity at every turn.

The social aspect of this trip is just as much the adventure as the activities; spend your evening back at the Pesä getting to know your new-found group of friends over dinner and beneath clear, star-lit skies.

5-8 hours of skiing

Day 6: Last day on the snow

You might like to indulge in Tamok Valley today; with so much to explore, there’s probably still a lot to see and appreciate close to camp. Perhaps you’ll play in the nearby powder stashes; whilst you’ll want to make the most of your last day, your muscles may be thankful for a little lighter activity today.

Tonight there is an option to treat yourself to something a little bit special; a traditional wood-heated sauna by a mountain creek, complete with a hole in the ice for a refreshing dip (approx. €20/person) or grab your camera and get out there to capture the northern lights or at least the gorgeous starry sky – it would be a crime not to.

5-8 hours of skiing

Day 7: Departure

Enjoy your last breakfast in “Pesä”, before heading to home with incredible stories and pictures to amaze your friends.
