4 days CHALLENGING

Multi-day ski & snowshoe tour in Pyhä-Luosto National Park takes the explorer across the unbroken snow of vast Aapa bogs and through the ancient forests. Skis used are short and wide, easy-to-maneuver wilderness skis with integrated climbing skins on the bottom of the skis. Skiers will pull ahkio sleds (also called pulka) for personal and/or group equipment, keeping the backpack weight low and adding the right kind of Arctic spirit. A Bliss guide will lead the tour and share his/her knowledge about the surrounding nature and wilderness travel tradition keeping it safe and sound at all times.

Skiers will spend the first night at a genuine Finnish wilderness hut in the middle of nowhere. A proper wood-heated sauna will be available. One can also grab the recommendable option of rolling in snow during the sauna session – rewarding for the both body and soul!

The Bliss Adventure's wilderness skis of choice are so called “Altai skis”. They are short, easy-to-use forest skis that combines the best features of a ski and snowshoe. With a partial climbing skin integrated into the base, the ski climbs with ease. The skin also makes the ski slower and easier to control than traditional skis. The ski’s short, wide design makes it incredibly maneuverable, ideal for thick woods and variable terrain, a truly all-purpose backcountry tool.

From Rovaniemi, the closest airport and Santa Claus’ headquarters, it takes approximately two hours by car or by Skibus to reach us either in Pyhä (Hotel Pyhätunturi) or in Luosto (Lapland Hotel Luostotunturi).

Sometimes the fish seem to vanish totally all of a sudden. Saivo lakes were believed to have a double bottom allowing the fish to swim through a large hole in the bed of the lake to the safety of the lower layers. According to local folklore, also a giant fish lived in saivo lake and sometimes appeared to people, as did the elves and other spirit-like creatures of forest.

According to a local legend, the most powerful forest spirit of Pyhä-Luosto region is Huttu-Ukko. He has assisted many hunters and other locals in their endeavors, assuming they behaved in the forest in a respectful way. Huttu-Ukko was known for being so tall, that a skier could have skied between his legs without noticing Huttu-ukko at all. The sometimes visible, large, round-shaped formations on ice and snow on Lake Huttujärvi are known for being  from Huttu-Ukko's ski poles.
