Ski through the unbroken snow in forest like a local! The most genuine activity in Lapland, rewarding also for the absolute beginner. A guide will be delighted to instruct you the safe and fun wilderness skiing technique.
Wilderness skis are short, wide, and wonderfully agile, designed to glide effortlessly across deep, powdery snow. No previous skiing experience is required — just step in and enjoy the sensation of floating through soft Arctic landscapes. Exploring Arctic winter forests has never felt this easy!
Wilderness skis combine the best features of snowshoes and backcountry skis in one versatile tool. A built-in partial climbing skin provides reliable grip when ascending, while also offering greater control and stability than traditional skis. Their compact, wide design makes them exceptionally maneuverable — ideal for navigating old Arctic forests and varied terrain.
For this activity, guests use their own winter boots. The ski bindings are designed to work with almost all types of regular winter footwear, so no special ski boots are needed. To keep you comfortable and dry, we provide gaiters for every participant, preventing snow from getting inside your boots while skiing. Please note that fashionable Moon Boots are better suited for après-ski photos than wilderness skiing. They are usually too bulky to fit safely into the bindings and offer little ankle support for this activity. If you have warm winter boots with good ankle support, you’re all set for a comfortable and enjoyable wilderness skiing experience.
Classic Wilderness Skiing Tour is available both in Pyhä (Pyhätunturi) and Luosto (Luostotunturi), located just a mere 20 km from each other in Lapland. They both offer an easy access to the Pyhä-Luosto National Park’s gorgeous taiga forests. You will be asked during the booking process whether you want to start the Classic Wilderness Skiing Tour either from Pyhä or Luosto.
Pick-up for this experience is available in Pyhä from the locations listed below for an additional fee. This option can be selected either from Extras or during the booking process, depending on the booking channel.
Note: Pick-up from Pyhä locations starts 15 minutes before departure. If there are many customers at different pickup points, it is important to arrive on time and wait patiently for your own ride.
